Depressives like to impulse buy, there is no getting around it. Luckily my hobbies are pretty cheap, a roll of filament only being a few pounds, but it's not the value of the object that counts in this, it's the urge to buy. So a couple of hours looking after my grand daughter the other day has left me promising to make a movie with her in it. If she takes an interest in something then it is my responsibility to feed that interest. I had also really enjoyed making the odd travelogue recently and want to carry it on, during the winter months at least.
To be fair I hadn't really planned any of the videos I took in Thailand, it just seemed the best way to capture the experience. Any way back to my grand daughters movie. I have looked at gimbals before but thought I never take video, so what's the point, well now I see the point, this also handily feeds my need to buy. I could have bought a brand new one quite cheaply, but I went for a bit more quality and purchased a refurbished one through eBay. The DJI OM4 SE seemed to fit the bill. I have an old Huawei P20 Pro kicking about (I never get rid of my old phones), it has a 40Mp sensor so would do as good, if not better a job, than my current phone.
For a refurbished item I can honestly say you cannot tell, everything is in perfect condition. You get a handy pouch, a wrist strap, a magnetic back for your phone and a nice lightweight tripod. I just needed a few hours of playing to get used to what it can do, and I am already thinking of ways I could mount an external mic and maybe a light. Better get Fusion 360 fired up.
