Me and Mrs Grandolph like a bit of travelling, we have tried to see as much of this little blue globe in our time together. But we are both getting a bit to old for long flights so we are on a mission, while we can, to mark off the last few far flung bucket list locations. This year we decided to spend some time pursuing some of our joint interests of war history and elephants. So this will probably be our last trip to the far east, and my first time in the beautiful country of Thailand.
The flight out was pretty uneventful, a brief lay over in the absolutely humongous Dubai Airport, still home to a good selection of air side smoking rooms. Yes we both smoke and no we do not want to give up yet, we have both smoked since our early teens, and will continue to do so until either ill health or death gets to us. And that my friends is the last I will say on the subject.
Arriving in a sweltering Bangkok, in jeans and hoodie, the humid tropical air hits you like a brick tied to another very big brick. Don't get me wrong, we both love the heat, but not in jeans and jumpers. Luckily our driver, a friend of a friend who arranged most of this trip, had waited the 2 and a half hours for us to get through immigration, and whisked us as fast as he could through Bangkok traffic to our hotel the idyllic sounding Ratchaphruek Pavilion Hotel. For now at least all we want to do is eat and sleep.
